His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, also known as Srila Prabhupada, was a spiritual leader and founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), also known as the Hare Krishna Movement. He was born on September 1, 1896, in Kolkata, India, to a pious Hindu family.

From a young age, Srila Prabhupada showed a deep interest in spirituality and the Vedic scriptures. He was particularly drawn to the teachings of Lord Krishna as explained in the Bhagavad Gita. After completing his education, he worked as a successful businessman, but his desire to share the teachings of Krishna consciousness remained strong.

In 1950, Srila Prabhupada became a disciple of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, the founder of the Gaudiya Math, a prominent Vaishnava organization. Srila Prabhupada became fully immersed in the study and practice of Krishna consciousness and began translating and writing commentaries on the Vedic scriptures.

In 1965, Srila Prabhupada arrived in New York City with only a few dollars and a suitcase of books. He had a burning desire to share the teachings of Krishna consciousness with the Western world. He started the Hare Krishna Movement, which quickly grew in popularity and attracted many followers.

Srila Prabhupada spent the remainder of his life traveling the world, spreading the message of Krishna consciousness and establishing ISKCON centers in various countries. He authored over 70 books on Krishna consciousness, including his magnum opus, the multi-volume Srimad-Bhagavatam.

Despite facing many challenges and obstacles, Srila Prabhupada remained steadfast in his devotion to Lord Krishna and his mission to share the teachings of Krishna consciousness with the world. He left his body on November 14, 1977, in Vrindavan, India, but his legacy continues to live on through the many devotees he inspired and the ongoing work of ISKCON.

Today, ISKCON has over 600 centers worldwide and continues to spread the message of Krishna consciousness through various activities, including education, humanitarian aid, and cultural programs. Srila Prabhupada's life and teachings continue to inspire countless people around the world to lead a life of devotion and service to Lord Krishna.
